Abstract

The article examines the history of the formation, development andcontent of the right to freedom of navigation in the international law of the sea,especially as reflected in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Atthe same time, through an analysis of some recent cases, the article clarifies the views ofthe Russian Federation in the practice of interpreting and applying the provisions of thelaw of the sea on the right to freedom of navigation.Keywords: Freedom of navigation; Russian Federation; UNCLOS; South China Sea.
